Five Finger Scratch Test

Our customers appreciate the performance of our film, and test results give them visual evidence of its superior performance.

Using the industry standard five finger scratch apparatus in combination with ' modified scratch pins, quantifiable differences in durability among various material constructions can be measured. Visually, the differences are readily seen.

O'Sullivan's Modified Scrath Pins

As shown below, UEV (unsupported expanded vinyl) exhibits penetrating damage beginning with a 3 N load when tested using the more severe modified scratch pin.

 

  • O’Sullivan Films’ standard .020" vinyl/foam laminate does not exhibit penetrating damage until reaching a 5 N load.
  • Through modification of vinyl hardness and gauge, O’Sullivan vinyl can be improved to pass up to a 7 N load.
  • With additional modifications, O’Sullivan vinyl can pass up to a 13 N load …more than 5 times the potential durability of a standard UEV product.
